Until now, the Lawson Centre for Sustainability has existed for most of the Trinity community as renderings and construction updates. That changed recently, when residence rooms became available for booking on the student portal — and students began choosing their rooms for September.
Some 357 students will call the Lawson Centre home when it opens this fall, moving into a mix of single and double rooms across its two residence wings — Whiteside House and Moran House in the Arthur Scace Academic Building. The grand opening is planned for September 2026.
“The Lawson Centre for Sustainability represents an exciting evolution of the Trinity residence experience,” Kristen Moore, Dean of Students and Director of Student Experience says. “It builds on our long-standing tradition of community and lifelong connection, while introducing modern, sustainable spaces that enable students to remain engaged in residence beyond their first year. In doing so, it creates new opportunities for deeper belonging, leadership, and connection that will stay with our students long after they leave Trinity.”
The Lawson Centre includes a significant number of doubles — rooms of the kind that have, for generations of Trinity students, been the setting for lifelong friendships. In this issue, alumni share their own roommate memories in “Friends Forever.”
The Lawson Centre has already won a 2025 Holcim Foundation Award for Best Practice in Sustainable Design, and a silver medal in the Future Projects – Education category of the 2026 World Architecture News Awards.
